Review: RentSomethingLeh Singapore

Before I travel, a visit to RentSomethingLeh (RSL) is always necessary, to pick up the equipment I need for filming. The concept behind RSL is really simple. For the casual traveller, investing in GoPros/ drones for those awesome Sam Kolder-esque travel shots is a little too extreme. Renting them is so much more cost effective, and you can get your travel memories captured in style. Even for seasoned content creators, RSL is great for trying out new equipment before committing to a purchase, or just to rent for short term projects.

I am a big fan of minimalist travel shooting – I find that lugging huge cameras and a million devices around on my trips spoils the experience somewhat. So my go-to equipment from RSL is always their DJI Osmo Mobile, a handheld stabiliser for with a holder for all mobile phone types. The DJI always makes it a breeze to shoot cinematic shots as I travel, with just my iPhone. Check out the quality of the videos I’ve made, entirely on my iPhone 6 and 7! Below is a panning shot of a hotel lobby, stabilised with my DJI Osmo mobile.

They have a really decent range of equipment you can check out at their site www.rentsomethingleh.com! Everytime I visit their site I see they have added something new (and I just realised they used my photo for their subscription prompt HAHA yay). You can rent anything from drones to DSLRs to camera accessories to stabilisers to photo printers… you get the idea! They are also quite flexible with rentals – often I just need a spare battery for my own DJI Phantom so I would rent just the spare battery from them too!

Quality and upkeep of their equipment is really good as well. Everything is in full working condition, fully charged when handed over to you. The staff will always do a check and briefing with you on the spot if you are unsure how to use the equipment. I never had any problems during my trip with their equipment. Plus, my beloved DJI Osmo Mobile somehow always looks brand new when I rent it again 🙂 It is also so easy to use, my friends pick it up really easily when I need their help with filming!

Book with RSL on their website and you can collect your rental equipment from them easily at Toa Payoh MRT. Their staff is always cheery, polite and efficient – going the extra mile to text you a reminder, or even to accommodate your timing! I am big on good service (so lacking in Singapore) so I will always support companies that make an effort to train their employees to smile and be polite. It sounds so simple, but sincere warm service is so rare in Singapore, so that’s what really stood out for me about RSL! I always enjoy renting with them 🙂
