Review: Doubletree by Hilton Bangkok Ploenchit in Bangkok, Thailand

One of the best things about living in Singapore is the island’s proximity to beautiful, vibrant Southeast Asian cities! You can fly to Phuket, Langkawi, Bali and other Asian locales like Taipei for a quick weekend trip for less than a restaurant meal in Singapore. And so when I had a free weekend end 2019, I decided to fly over to Bangkok to visit my friend and take the opportunity to check out the latest Cookie in town – Doubletree by Hilton’s latest property in Ploenchit, Bangkok! After all, the City of Angels is always a good idea for an impromptu shopping, eating & chilling trip 🙂

Doubletree by Hilton always has a special place in my heart as they were one of my first hotel partners when I was just starting out on my Instagram journey. I remember seeing the renowned Hilton brand name and feeling like I made it! I have since stayed at numerous Doubletree hotels around Southeast Asia and have only fallen more and more in love with their signature warm welcome cookies and equally warm service standards 🙂 I always feel like home wherever in the world I am.

I landed in Bangkok absolutely starving because I had misjudged my lunchtime and didn’t want to waste stomach space on airplane food when I have spicy basil pork, mango sticky rice & tomyum soup waiting for me in Asia’s food heaven!! Thank goodness check-in to Doubletree by Hilton Bangkok Ploenchit was smooth and pleasant, with me munching hungrily on my cookie 🙂

“A cookie??” is the response I always get when I try to explain why I love Doubletree so much BUT they always get it once they have tried staying once in a Doubletree hotel. The way to your guest’s heart is definitely through a full tummy 🙂

Having stayed in hotels all over the way and repeated the check-in process a gazillion times, I love a unique and memorable check-in! Their welcome cookies really set Doubletree apart from other stays. Doubletree by Hilton Bangkok Ploenchit takes the warm gooey feels to another level with their staff’s genuine sincerity – they welcomed me personally and took time to find out how they can make my trip better!

But the true surprise from Doubletree by Hilton Bangkok Ploenchit was in my room! I opened my door to a refreshing citrus scent throughout my suite but didn’t think much of it until I entered the bathroom, where the team had painstakingly prepared a surprise rose petal & citrus bath with scented candles 🛁🌹🍊 They also decorated my room with a little chocolate chip cookie pouch, a personalised light box and more snacks – I felt so pampered!! Did I mention the rose petals on the bed (they basically went nuts with the rose petals WHICH I LOVE) and just about the most majestic towel swan I have ever had the honour to preserve and refuse to dismantle?? i named the swan Roberta. She has a TAIL that extends to the carpet. It was the perfect sensory welcome to Doubletree by Hilton Bangkok Ploenchit & The Land of Smiles 🙏🏼

Once we got settled down, it was time to settle our tummies!! Doubletree by Hilton Bangkok Ploenchit is located along Sukhumvit 2 in a quiet district which is right around the corner from Ploen Chit BTS. From the station, you are just 2 stops away from the city centre of Siam and also Terminal 21, which happens to house my favourite foodcourt in Bangkok!! The prices are affordable (sometimes even cheaper than street food), the food is clean and there is a wide variety of Thai delicacies to sample!

My favourite mango sticky rice!!

So instead of taking the train, we decided to walk along Bangkok’s bustling streets in the cool night air towards Terminal 21 for dinner! It only took us about 10 mins and there was so much to see and buy on the way there that we only took the train once during my trip. We also discovered the Artbox night market just a few minutes from Doubletree by Hilton Bangkok Ploenchit, as well as a crowded nightlife street with clubs and bars just one soi away!

If you are in Bangkok for some serious shopping, the prime location of Doubletree by Hilton Bangkok Ploenchit will be a definite plus point! We spent a day shopping at Platinum Mall, had dinner at Greyhound Cafe, grabbed dessert at After You and caught a movie at CentralWorld AND walked back to the hotel – it was so convenient especially with Bangkok’s crazy traffic jams.

Greyhound Cafe at Siam Paragon – just 2 stops from Doubletree by Hilton Bangkok Ploenchit
My must-order every time I visit Greyhound Cafe!
After You – everything on the menu is fantastic!!

I remember my first trip to Bangkok with my teammates – we were 15 years old and broke but desperately wanted to buy a whole pile of crop tops & ombré shorts so we would stuff ourselves at our hotel’s buffet breakfast to last us for the day and spend all our money in Platinum. Well, if we had Doubletree’s lovely breakfast spread, I’m sure we wouldn’t make it out of the door. I don’t normally wake up in time for breakfast but I loved their DIY soya milk dessert with sago, barley & mochi. It was the perfect warm start to a day of shopping, and there is always a wide variety of live food stations brewing, from soup noodles to traditional breakfast eggs.

We also got to enjoy breakfast alfresco style at the hotel’s beautiful outdoor cove with swaying palm trees so be sure to pick an outdoor seat if weather permits!

I am a real stickler for service standards and even so, I was most satisfied by the team at Doubletree by Hilton Bangkok Ploenchit! Everywhere I went, the staff always had a cheery smile ready and an ernest greeting to go with, making me feel totally at ease. I love hotels where the staff are truly happy working there, because the cheer in the air is truly palpable.

One night we bought tomyum seafood maggi back from famous supper spot Jeh O to avoid the queue and we headed to the kitchen to borrow a few large bowls. The kitchen crew very kindly lent us all the utensils we needed (and housekeeping cleared them from our room when we were done). While we were waiting, we overheard one of the waitresses trying to help a Malaysian guest with GrabFood, a food delivery app. She was craving tom yum soup but the kitchen was closed so the waitress spent a good 20 minutes carefully searching through the app and calling restaurants for her to get her tom yum soup!! It was so nice of them to go the extra mile for her and we were thoroughly impressed 🙂

Iconic of Doubletree is also their Care Line! No matter the time (and my body clock is extremely wrecked) just dial the Care Line and you can get anything you need! I wanted to relight the candles with a lighter but they didn’t have any so they found some matches for me instead!

I spent a few nights trying to reset my body clock in Bangkok – it gave me the opportunity to see the beautiful sunrise and sunset views over the cityscape from our suite 🙂 Truly a rejuvenating stay!

So blessed to continue my Cookie trail in 2019 with the newly opened Doubletree by Hilton Bangkok Ploenchit! From the beautiful rooms to the outstanding service, Doubletree never disappoints 🙂

My only regret was that the pool was under renovation but we managed to check out the very well-equipped gym (by check out I mean literally go there and check it out and leave to go back and snuggle in bed LOL). I love the smell of new hotels ooh ~ can’t wait to be back already!

Be sure to check in to this new Cookie on your next trip to Bangkok 🙂
